Positive Behaviours for Learning (PBL) at Franklin School
Positive Behaviours for Learning are a part of our ‘Wellbeing at Franklin’ framework. This framework is designed to promote and provide a supportive learning environment in which all students can expect to feel safe, respected and valued.
Positive Behaviours for Learning (PBL) is an evidence based whole school systems approach that addresses the diverse academic and social needs of every student to support them to be successful learners.
More information on the PBL framework can be found on the ACT Directorate Website
What does this look like at Franklin?
At Franklin, our five Learner Dispositions guide student, staff and community behaviour. These are:
We use our Learner Dispositions to create clear expectations and ‘rules’ that use positive language, for example "walk" instead of "don't run". This is done for all areas across the school and all people involved in the school community.
This clearly defined set of expected behaviours (expectations and rules) is backed up by teaching procedures and procedures for acknowledging expected behaviours as well as responding to other behaviours. PBL uses an educative approach so there is the opportunity for students to get back on track.
At Franklin we reward positive behaviour through a token system. We are currently building on this system as we embed the PBL framework.
