Principal's Message:

Welcome to Franklin School! We are a place of learning where all students, families and staff can thrive and belong and collaborate and connect.
Our vision is that our students will be confident and involved learners who have a strong sense of identity and wellbeing. Our purpose is to create an environment where learning is dynamic, fun, challenging and focused on success and achievement. Our approach to learning is guided by our key learning dispositions: Responsible, Caring, Inquiring, Collaborative and Resilient. These dispositions shape the way we learn, teach and interact, fostering a community of engaged and motivated learners who take ownership of their education and contribute positively to the world around them.
We take pride in our school diversity and strong community partnerships, which enrich the learning experiences of our students and strengthen our connections with families and the broader Gungahlin community. Inclusion is at the heart of our school culture—we embrace diversity and celebrate the unique strengths and backgrounds of all our students.
Franklin School is also home to the Gungahlin Introductory English Centre (IEC), which supports students from diverse linguistic and cultural backgrounds as they develop their English language skills. The IEC plays a crucial role in ensuring that all students, regardless of their language proficiency, feel welcomed, included and empowered to succeed.
We partner with Anglicare to offer high-quality education and care services for children from birth to four years old through an integrated service delivery model. This collaboration provides a seamless and supportive transition into formal schooling, ensuring that our youngest learners are nurtured in a safe and stimulating environment. Our preschool program is guided by the Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF), which fosters play-based learning, curiosity and the development of foundational skills. For students in Kindergarten to Year 6 we follow the Australian Curriculum ensuring a comprehensive and structured approach to literacy, numeracy, science and the humanities. Our teaching practices include Explicit Direct Instruction (EDI), a research-based approach that provides clear, structured lessons to support student understanding and mastery of key concepts.
We strongly believe in student agency and empowering students to take an active role in their education. Our Student Parliament provides a platform for students to contribute to school decision-making, develop leadership skills and foster a sense of responsibility and community involvement.
We offer a range of specialist programs that enhance our students’ learning experiences, including Physical Education (PE), The Arts, Technology and Sustainability. These programs provide opportunities for students to develop their creativity, problem-solving skills and physical wellbeing while fostering a deep appreciation for environmental responsibility and innovation.
We are incredibly proud of the dynamic and inclusive learning community we have built at Franklin School. I encourage you to explore our website to learn more about our programs, values and the many opportunities available to our students.
We look forward to partnering with you on this exciting educational journey.
Best wishes,
Simon Barker
Principal
